When Magic Ebbs

The morning dew sparkles
sunbeams barely yet peeking
the canapy of leaves still sleeping
a day still in its infancy

the surface is frozen
a mirror of the world
its reflections crisp
filled with beautiful colour

undisturbed and serine
mimicking the trees afar
reversing their stance
upside down is their view

the sky a vivid blue
copied in every detail
clouds swimming by
like the fish below

schools fluid and flowing
darting here and there
in a world of their own
below that sheet of glass

thunder in the distance
quickly approaching
foam splashing off its bow
spray darts in its wake

then it is gone
the surface now angry
its slumber disturbed
expanding ripples form

growing and leaping
frothy white caps curl
the surface marred by the passing
the trees afar blur and shimmer

spreading in an expanding vee
one becomes two
two becomes four
four become six, three to a side

reaching out never relenting
until reaching the shore
pulsing once, twice and again.
angry sounds a slumber disturbed

and then it is gone
like it never was
calm is restored
the trees are back

the clouds dance again
the silence is so loud
no horns, no sirens
tranquillity so apparent

no phones
no stress
isolated
with nature

a loon glides by
looking for a snack
vanishing below
with barely a ripple

then the flap of wings
so many soon are heard
the geese arrive
splashing on the mirror

sighs
soon it will end
another season
of memories

Autumn
colours
closings
sadness

when magic ebbs

  1. *wonders if this was what you saw today*
*wonders if this what you saw over summer*
*wonders if this is partial scenes in your minds eye*

And thinks some of my summer’s clouds might be your autumn’s shadows. I hope not … but if so, then we will drive them away together. Your Aimee … your Megan … and the others. And I will help too.

  2. *S* I wrote this Sunday night, and yes it was what I saw that morning. The cottage is so magical for me and with the changing weather.. we are talking of the closing for winter. It happens each and every year, but we open in the spring too, so there is something to look forward to.

  3. It was so beautiful, some colour reflected on the shore, the lake was so calm, not a ripple. Those geese were very noisy though 🙂

  4. It was a magical morning ber, but what was beautiful was the couple standing down by the lake watching it unfold.

And I can’t help but wonder, why some three hundred geese (yes we counted) all swam over to the two of you? They fly away when ever anyone else tries to visit them. But your Mom said it has always been that way.

you can delete this later 🙂

  5. Meg is right Ambers, the magic is in you. But I loved the poem it captured the morning, most of the mornings we have had there, and will have again and again.
