I am back.

Vacations end. blech. lol, we had a lot of fun though. Aimee configured her auto response on her email to say…. I am either singing, laughing, swimming, flying, eating, floating, boating or relaxing in a hammock. I am on vacation! See you next week.

And that is just what we did. The week zoomed by!

Long canoe rides early in the morning when the lake was still misty. The fish were jumping and doing tricks in the air, the loons were singing off in the distance.

Campfires by the shore listening to the loons call some more. I think they got closer when we sang.

Some great meals, well all of them were great! We boated to a corn stand that was beside the road down the lake a bit, the corn was amazing as usual, it is handy we can boat to it.

We flew to a resort for an amazing brunch, it was so relaxing and the lake was like glass, it was so beautiful. They gave us a table that overlooked the lake, the view was magnificent.

A night of rain, listening to it patter on the roof. It didn’t do any pittering,…

We swam early in the morning, in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening and at night, the water kept calling to us. Between swims we relaxed in hammocks by the lake shore and watched nature swim by, a family of ducks kept us amused as mom would push them along to keep them in a group, daddy duck was off doing manly duck things. A loon took to standing on a rock close to where we were sitting, vanishing every once and a while to fish, then returning to balance on the rock again. Every once and a while a blue heron would chase it away and stand on the rock. It was a very popular rock.

We flew to an adjacent province to visit family that live on a lake, for a couple of days, we surprised them as only one family member knew we were coming, We stopped on a very busy lake to fuel up as their lake is a bit tiny. Both lakes are so beautiful. We taxied a long way to their cottage and then tied up at their dock, there was a lot of squealing when they saw us deplane. It wasn’t long before there were lots of people asking for rides so they could see their home from the air. Sheish good thing we filled up our tank. It was fun though I love the excitement when someone flies for the first time, more so when they see their home or cottage from the air, the view is always different from what they expect.

It was a wonderful week off, we liked it so much we are planning another one soon. I think I should plan two six month vacations a year, that would be just about perfect….

A week off… or VACATION!

We are off to the cottage for a week to relax and have some fun.

I will still peek to see how everyone is doing with my tiny phone and its tiny keys.

between my strenuous activities.

Where are the smores?

Sunny Sunday

Spring finally fell on us. uhm, sprang? springed? sproing? bounced in? eeeeps.

Well it is here. Finally, actually it felt more like summer today, which is good too. Spring springs, fall falls, winter lasts forever and summer does what? hmmm. Well it doesn’t last long enough, of that I am certain.

We had a great summer like evening last night, company came over, we had a mixed grill on the bbq. Which is a great way to finish a day. Some of my roomies seemed to have a lot of fun last night too, not as much fun this morning I think though. I was sneaking out quietly this morning to get some grass seed to over seed our lawn with, now that it is growing, now that spring finally showed up, whilst they slept in after springing so much, uhm sproinging?

Aimee decided to come with, tis good to have someone to operate the radio. She asked where we were going, I said I was planning on getting some grass seed. When she finished adjusting the radio she looked around wondering where the grass seed store was that we were going to.

Oh we aren’t getting grass seed right now I told her.

Ok, so where are we going?

I pointed up.

It was just too beautiful a day, clear sky… gentle breeze…

She smiled.

Less than an hour later we went by our house again, to check out the lawn… it actually looked good from a thousand feet.

Aimee said it was too bad we didn’t pick up the grass seed we could have spread it quite easily from there. eeeeeps.

We landed at a smaller airport and Aimee noticed a familiar car driving up, she smiled again and we had lunch with her mom. She didn’t have any grass seed though, so we had to leave.

We did finally manage to buy a sack o seed on the way home though. Do you know how many sizes it comes in? We bought a ten kg bag, we have a lot of lawn to over seed, I bet it will go fast.

Now we will need rain, sheish, then the grass will grow and we will have to cut it, is green cement expensive?

The ultimate rush

This winter, that seems to not want to end…

To continue on, in its ignorant bliss…

Taxing overpowering afflictions… the fever of spring.

Expecting us to wait, to postpone, to procrastinate.

Silly winter, in your white blanket of self.

You, today encountered a stronger force.

Throw at me, freezing rain and snow, sleet even too.

blech I say to you, be off with you. I will wait no longer.

My Monday Morning

Getting up early and looking at the glassy lake… smiling so much in anticipation.  Breakfast quickly prepared, I don’t want an empty stomach for my mornings fun. blech.. an empty stomach is not a good thing at any time.. but not for today.

Then we can hear it, the roar…

Finally it is here.

The smile on my face can’t be hidden, it is stuck there. Quickly running down to the dock, my heart pounding, it has been so long…

Climbing in, listening to instructions, to the changes from last summer… all those belts.. clicking

Glancing through the windows, checking to see what is in the area, looking at the waves, watching the way the wind is blowing.. and how strong.. it is light so it won’t make much difference. Just a little chop on the water, that is good, I like just a bit of chop. grins more.

looking at the dock and as impossible as it seems, my smile grows more, waving excitedly. woo hoo.

nodding an ok.. feeling the gentle push off, we are moving away from the dock, everything is clear.. the engine starts. ohhh it is a loud roar, it sounds so great. so powerful.

We start to move, now I am really looking around, left, right, and way down the lake.. and up

Things happen so fast now, even with excitement I must look everywhere.

We  are clear of the island, the lake ahead is open… moving the throttle forward, the engine starting to roar, I can feel the ripples on the lake now, the chop, beating against the hull. The speed increases fast, the flaps are set we are really moving quickly now, eagerness pokes me, I grin and cheat a bit, a slight rock to the left and one float is free, back to the the right just a bit and the chop stops, now we are really zooming, This is the part I love, so low you have such a feeling of speed, we are free from the suction of the water now, the engine is pulling us so much faster, it is time to go up… pulling back on the stick I feel the g force pressing me to my seat a bit and up we go.

omg, I am flying again. Everything becomes smaller, I can almost see the end of the lake, time to trim out, a gentle turn and we are going back,  everyone standing on the dock waving. grinning more and rocking the wings a bit as we pass over, now in a gentle climb, the sky is so blue I can see the other lakes now. It is a fantastic day, the air so calm, oh there is a big cloud, there are so few of them today, zooming toward it.. knowing it will lift me higher if get below it, circling, enjoying the free lift, now high enough to zoom down, I love this… pushing the stick forward, we tilt and the speed increases, we are weightless for a brief moment, good thing all those belts clicked in place.

Another pass over the cottage, more waves, omg.. I am so happy. Time to go back.. 25 minutes passed already, wow, it seems like seconds… now to be careful.. taking off is easy…

lots of looking now, that tiny boat, where is it going, they zip in so fast sometimes. Slowly we lose altitude, again, my favorite part, skimming above the waves, even the fast boats we pass now, setting the flaps once more, so we have lift at slower speeds, lower and lower, then the floats start to chatter a bit as they kiss the water… omg it was so smooth..

Heading back to the dock, moving slowly timing our approach so we don’t smack anything, that is always bad with thin floats.. it looks good, the engine is silent and we drift in, a slight turn we are  lined up with the dock, our wing is grabbed and we stop, everything seems so quiet, so still…. pssst it was perfect.

Then I look at all the eyes on the dock, my room mates standing there, each one with eyes saying so much… pleading,  how to pick… oh I know, it will be alphabetical, nods that is fair.

I still have my silly grin, it was a fantastic day.

oh something interesting for you  to look at.
